QTS Group can offer geotechnical/earthworks design services to suit our clients’ requirements.
Our wide and varied experience provide a unique insight to the practical problems site conditions, allowing us to promote solutions from both practical and commercial viewpoints.
Where required, we act as Principal Contractor, calling on selected third party consultants to complement our team.

De-Vegetation & Rock Scaling

QTS Group can supply IRATA/NPTC certified chainsaw & hedge-trimmer operatives to carry out all aspects of de-vegetation on steep/vertical earthworks.

Rock scaling is generally used as a mechanism to clear a slope of loose/fractured rock to facilitate inspection/implementation. QTS Group undertakes light and heavy scaling in a variety of scenarios including

• Excavator Raking/Scaling
• Supply of excavator mounted ‘Heavy Scaling Devices’
• Jacking
• Percussive Breakers
• Plug and Feather
• Expansive Grouts
• Explosives

Rock Bolts

A rock bolt is a long anchor bolt, used for stabilizing rock excavations. They transfer load from the unstable exterior, to the confined (and much stronger) interior of the rock mass. They are a standard feature in many geotechnical design packages and work by 'knitting' the rock mass together sufficiently, before it can move enough to loosen and fail by unravelling (piece by piece).

QTS group can offer a wide variety of drilling systems including:

• Drifter
• DTH
• Auger
• ODS

Our drills can be fitted to a wide range of plant and equipment to overcome difficult access issues.

QTS GROUP installs rock bolts and dowels into a variety of ground conditions, from railways to highways. Innovative and flexible drill mounting systems have been developed by our plant engineers to promote efficiently. Where possible mechanisation is prioritised however, we have the facility to use to purpose built Frame Rigs, Air Legs and Hand Drills for in-accessable sites as required.

Rockfall Netting

Rockfall netting is used on eroding rock faces, it reduces the risk of damage to third parties caused by falling debris.

The systems are usually designed in two formats:

• Passive (free-hanging 'curtain'). The netting is designed to contain rather than prevent rockfall.
• Active Restraint. These systems are generally constructed using high tensile mesh in conjunction with rock bolts to prevent rock falls. 

QTS Group can offer various Active Restraint and Passive netting systems, from a wide spread of manufacturers.

Soil Nailing

Soil nailing is a cost-effective technique where soil slopes, excavations or retaining walls are reinforced by the insertion of relatively slender elements - normally steel reinforcing bars.

The bars are usually installed into a pre-drilled hole and then grouted into place or drilled and grouted simultaneously.

The nails can be installed in conjunction with a face system to further reduce the impact of weather, or to encourage vegetation.

QTS Group can install a varied range of soil nails to wide variety of ground conditions. We have the facility to overcome difficult access issues to remediate existing over-steep slopes, or new earthworks.
